North Pacific Gold Coast - The Next Gay Costa Rica

Welcome to the first Gay Costa Rica blog focused on a new territory for our community to explore. Gay travelers have been exploring Costa Rica since the 1980's, but visits always began with San Jose, as it had the only international airport in the country. The closest beaches were on the Central Pacific coast and Manuel Antonio evolved as "The" gay vacation destination in Costa Rica. In the last decade, the travel landscape of the country has changed.

Costa Rica's second international airport at Liberia, in the Guanacaste province, received its first flight in December, 2002, and volume has grown to nearly 60 flights per week in high season. Visitors now depart from home cities as diverse as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Brussels, Toronto, and Calgary. The opening of the airport generated a general vacation travel and real estate investment boom to the new frontiers of the north Pacific coast since 2002, and early gay pioneers were part of both.

Now, as the world emerges from the economic crash, and the desire for new global gay destinations begins to grow, the unspoiled (and some unexplored) beaches, dramatic mountains, and stunning sunsets are ready to welcome our community. This blog will bring your news and activities from the Next Gay Costa Rica, and hiopefully involve you in its growth and success. Our first challenge will be to pick Costa Rica's next great gay beach!
